Faith Formation

Classroom PreK-5th
St. Paul's preschool through grade seven classroom program is offered two times each week at Damascus High School---Mondays 7:00-8:15 p.m. and Thursdays, 5-6:15 p.m.. Dedicated volunteer catechists and aides teach the students that God is revealed in Jesus Christ and that as Church they continue to make present the Body of Christ here on earth. Doctrine, service, community-building and prayer are vital components of our total faith formation programs. Parent hall monitors are present to ensure the safety of all.

Lectionary
The lectionary-based program is taught by parents in their own home. In the lectionary-based program, the Sunday readings from Mass are studied, using books for primary (K-2), intermediate (3-5), and middle school (6-8). Families in the lectionary-based program meet seasonally for social and spiritual gatherings. The lectionary-based program begins in Advent (December) and continues through the entire church year (ending in November). In November, there will be an introductory meeting for parents to explain the program and distribute the materials. Family participation in the seasonal gatherings is expected for all who choose this as their religious education program.

Atrium
The Atrium is a Montessori-based religious education program for three age levels--three to six, six to eight, and nine to twelve. The Atrium meets in the homes of parishioners and uses a "hands-on experiential" methodology. You may call Katie Junghans at 301-253-0136 for a more detailed description of the Atrium.

Preparing for the Sacraments
Children grade two and above who have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are invited to register for these sacramental preparation programs.

Youth grades eight and above who have not yet been confirmed are invited to register for preparation. Confirmation is celebrated in the Fall of the year. Preparation begins in one school year and is completed in the next. Confirmation I is for those just beginning their preparation. Confirmation II is for those who began the preparation this past year and will be confirmed in the next school year.

All sacramental preparation programs require parent participation. Some meetings will be for parents alone and others will be for parents and their sons and daughters together. Registration in a religious education program (classroom, lectionary, Atrium, or Catholic School ) is required for everyone in sacramental preparation.

Program Enrollment
Programs are available to registered parishioners who are actively participating in the life of the parish. Non-parishioners require the approval of the Pastor to enroll children in a parish program.
